Swissnex in India
While the pandemic hit India particularly hard in 2021, the year also marked an unprecedented growth in the country’s innovation scene. In 2021, Indian start-ups raised $42 billion (in 2020 it was $11.5 billion). India now counts about 60,000 start-ups and it is home to the world’s third largest start-up ecosystem. Edtechs have been particularly prolific in navigating the online shift in education, and the world’s most valuable edtech is now found in Bengaluru.
At Swissnex in India, we consolidated our digital craft, and among our 2021 highlights, we released a report on rethinking international exchanges in a digital-first context; we conducted a study on the impact of Covid-19 on science communication with our colleagues in Boston, Science et Cité, the Swiss Academies for Arts and Sciences, and the Indian National Institute of Advanced Studies; and we successfully led 20 entrepreneurs from Switzerland and India in a digital version of the Academia Industry Training (AIT).
In 2022, we look forward to launching our new strategic priorities, which will include an exciting fellowship program, a focus on transformative learning experiences, and a stronger and more cohesive Swissnex network.
