Swissnex in China at an exciting turning point

For China, 2022 could not have been more difficult. On top of the strict travel restrictions in place across the country, Shanghai went into total lockdown for almost three months. These conditions were extremely challenging for an organization like Swissnex, which seeks to bring people together and build cross-border communities. Despite the challenges, we ensured our partners remained connected and informed throughout. We completed a comprehensive FoodTech trend-scouting mandate, co-launched a new China onboarding program for Swiss universities, and ran webinars dedicated to social innovation. Finally, as featured in this Annual Report, we captured the imagination of local Shanghainese at the Swiss Pop-Up House.

Looking ahead, 2023 already appears a lot brighter. The country is opening up its borders, and we are seeing the re-emergence of opportunities to reconnect in person. We will continue to support our partners by leveraging contacts, exploring content and providing context on the ground in China. Our new focus points – food, energy, the environment and health technology – will guide our programs and ensure we have our finger on the pulse in areas of particular global importance.

We look forward to developing our partnerships and welcoming you again soon in China.
