Swissnex in Japan

What an exciting time with bustling opportunities! A major milestone for Swissnex: The new Swissnex in Japan opened its doors on 30 September 2023, which was met with a resounding response in Japan, Switzerland and the world! The Grand Opening ceremony was graced by State Secretary Hirayama and highlighted ‘Breakthrough Trends in Sustainability’ and outstanding achievements of Swiss innovation, including nine pioneering startups and scaleups in the fields of solar fuels, direct carbon capture from the air, ambient PET recycling, autonomous legged robots, and drones.

In strategic areas such as quantum science, AI, or robotics, we are increasingly collaborating on a systemic level with like-minded countries. We aim to seamlessly link our thematic areas: aging, sustainability and startups, with many potential synergies in Japan and the Expo 2025, of course. The 160th anniversary of diplomatic relations in 2024 between Switzerland and Japan will provide even more opportunities on the horizon.

Again, as Japan’s first Science Consulate, we primarily focus on science and connect Switzerland and Japan in education, research, and innovation. Together with the Science and Technology Office in Tokyo and the whole Swissnex network, we will strengthen Switzerland’s profile as a world-leading innovation hotspot.
