Swissnex in Boston and New York

Innovation in a shifting climate. That was our theme for 2024, in multiple senses: we both pushed forward innovative ideas and solutions for the planet amid rapid climate change, and also shifted to new models for innovative, network-wide collaboration.

Our flagship program this year, Climate Ring, was a pop-up boxing arena for the fight of the century: the one for the planet. Part of Climate Week NYC, we organized twelve public events over three days, staged in a literal boxing ring, and welcomed over 1,000 guests to discuss challenges around climate literacy, sustainable fashion, coastal restoration, youth agency, food futures, and more. Climate Ring was a platform to showcase climate research and design work from Swiss universities, as well as the Swiss climatetech startups taking part in our Climate Collider program, powered by Innosuisse.

Climate Ring formed one part of Boston’s wider network effort for the newly launched Swissnex for the Planet, an initiative exploring novel forms of diplomacy that can rebalance the interests of humans and nonhumans on the planet. Along with Boston-led Project Quantum, which connects Switzerland and the world in quantum technologies, these network-wide initiatives signal a new collaborative spirit for Swissnex that magnifies our global impact.
