Climate Innovation, USA Meets the Alps

On September 19, 2023, the Swiss Embassy in Washington, D.C. in partnership with the Embassy of Germany hosted a collaborative event titled “Climate Innovation, USA Meets the Alps”. Distinguished representatives from 7 Alpine nations – Austria, Germany, France, Italy, Liechtenstein, Switzerland, and Slovenia – gathered at the Swiss Residence to present cutting-edge research, innovative technologies, and informed policies aimed at preserving fragile ecosystems such as the Alps and the Arctic. The event featured a follow-up panel with Swiss and German scientists. Dr. Celia Baumhoer from the German Aerospace Center DLR and Professor Marc Müller from the Swiss Institute EAWAG both shed light on concrete strategies such as remote sensing and decentralized systems, emphasizing their potential to foster environmental sustainability in high mountain and Arctic regions. The objective of the evening was to accelerate the sharing of knowledge between high altitude and high latitude regions, as well as to connect Alpine pioneering environmental research with dedicated stakeholders in the United States.

Climate Innovation, USA Meets the Alps” typically provided a platform for discussion and collaboration, highlighting the decades of expertise that Alpine countries have cultivated in understanding extreme environments and climate-induced adversities
