Metropolis: Celebrating 20 Years of Swissnex in San Francisco

2023 marked a milestone for Swissnex in San Francisco with its 20th anniversary. Our doors opened in November 2003 in the historic Jackson District in San Francisco, and while many things, including our new location at Pier 17, have changed, our commitment to innovation and collaboration has remained the same.

A series of events and programs were dedicated to the anniversary under the umbrella of "Metropolis – Sustainable Futures Under Construction," exploring and shaping the future of cities, focusing on food, energy, and the physical and digital environment.

By highlighting Swiss innovators at the forefront of urban development, Metropolis inspired individuals to question existing paradigms and envision bold and transformative solutions that can shape sustainable and thriving cities of tomorrow.

It created a space for visionary ideas to emerge by connecting dreamers and doers from both Switzerland and the Bay Area to co-create practical solutions for the future’s most pressing issues. It underscored Swissnex's commitment to innovation, sustainability, and global collaboration, charting a course for the next two decades of impactful endeavors.

As part of Metropolis, we selected fourteen projects from Switzerland for a one-week program in San Francisco in early November. By shining the spotlight on these emerging Swiss innovators and connecting them to dreamers and doers from the Bay Area, as well as peers from Switzerland, the program aimed to co-create practical solutions for the future’s most pressing issues and encourage entrepreneurs to think big.
