Swissnex at Expo 2025 Osaka

At Expo 2025 Osaka, Swissnex in Japan activated a multi-layered program that extended far beyond the Swiss Pavilion, creating connections across Osaka and throughout Japan. Bringing together science, art, and innovation, Swissnex fostered dialogue and collaboration around some of today’s most pressing global challenges.

Within the Swiss Pavilion, visitors encountered a six-month program aligned with the Expo’s theme, “Designing Future Society for Our Lives.” Through exhibitions, symposia, and interactive events, Swissnex connected Swiss and Japanese researchers, startups, artists, and policymakers. Topics ranged from the future of human-machine interaction and healthcare to climate and planetary thinking, reflecting Switzerland’s commitment to sustainability and innovation.

At the same time, Swissnex’s space served as a complementary hub for more experimental, discursive, and community-driven formats. Here, events, workshops, and exhibitions created space for deeper exchanges with local audiences, students, and creative communities. This dual presence, inside the Expo site and in the city, allowed Swissnex to engage both international visitors and local networks in meaningful ways.

Swissnex also extended its activities beyond Osaka, collaborating with partners across Japan to strengthen bilateral exchange. Academic institutions such as HEAD, ZHdK and the University of Zurich, as well as industry and public stakeholders, contributed to a diverse program spanning multiple disciplines and regions.

Among the highlights, the Swiss-Japan Energy Days 2025 convened experts from academia, industry, and government to explore energy transition, decarbonization, and climate resilience. Co-organized with ETH Zurich Energy Science Center, EPFL Energy Center and HSLU, the event exemplified the spirit of collaboration that defined our engagement throughout the Expo.

By bridging venues, disciplines, and communities, Swissnex in Japan demonstrated how global challenges can be addressed through sustained international collaboration. The relationships and ideas developed during Expo 2025 will continue to shape Swiss-Japanese partnerships well into the future.
